The Croods

The types of species the Croods are Homo Neanderthals. This is because even though they are pretty advanced, Their skull was still similar to that of monkeys.  Also even though they are bipedal, They still used their knuckles to run, walk or crouch. 

The Croods learned already knew how to communicate and speak to each other and we see this when they first came out of the cave. And ever since they met Guy, A homo Sapien, They learned how to use fire to cook food, use it for light at night, and to fend off predators. We also see them learn to make weapons at the end of the movie and this shows us that they learnt to adapt in their environment. 

"Potatools"

 In biology, We have been learning about Human Evolution. And the thing we focused on today was their weapons. instead of making the tools out of rocks, We used potatoes instead so it is easier to shape the potato into the shape that we need.  

Homo Naledi Summary

 In Level 3 Biology, we have been studying hominin evolution and there is an interesting discovery named Homo Naledi that scientists are still unsure about.

This article discusses the discovery of Homo Naledi, a new species belonging to the Homo Genus. According to them, Homo Naledi existed between 335,000 and 236,000 years ago. Because they were able to determine the age of the bones, they were able to place them in the timeline of hominin evolution in this article. Homo Naledi has a mix of Australopithecus-like characteristics ( particularly the pelvis and the shoulders). As well as homo-like traits such as their hands, feet, and brain. Scientists are likewise baffled as to what kind of diet they were on. This is because Homo Naledi had human-like molars at the back of its teeth but the front are unsophisticated like an apes. Furthermore, no tools have been discovered in the two caves, hence why we have no idea how they hunted for food or what kind of diet they ate. There are still unanswered questions about this new species. Questions such as how they hunted their food and what type of diet they had, How it traveled, whether they were swinging on trees or were walking upright, and many more.

The Theory of The "Self"

 When I think of the "self", I think of myself as a person and my identity. I also think about how I act and how I think when it comes to talking about the "self". 

I looked into a Philosopher about their theory of the "Self" and the one that interested me the most is Plato's theory about the "self". According to Plato, The soul is immortal and when we die, Our soul leaves our body to leave our body decompose. According to Plato's theory, The soul is cut down into three pieces. The rational soul, Spiritual soul, Appetitive Soul. 

In Plato's Theory, The main soul is the rational soul. The rational Soul is what we use to think, reflect and analyze things, and to do other cognitive functions. The second soul, The spiritual soul, Is where we experience Happiness, Sadness, Anger, and other emotions. And for the third soul, The Appetitive soul, is the soul where we experience Physical pain, Hungerness, and other physical wants. 

To understand it easier, It is explained as a chariot that is driven by two horses with a human controlling it. One mortal and one immortal. The first horse is described as a Deformed, Shag-eared, deaf and with blood-red complexion.  While the Immortal horse is known as the noble, game, Upright, and cleanly made. These two horses are what keeps us going forward but to balance it out, The person that is controlling the horses, which is you, You have to make the horses work in harmony to balance out yourself.

Eating Poetry

The poem says " It is ready and ripe now whenever you are". This could mean that the fruit is ripe or that the poem is now ready and filled with knowledge and it is up to you whether if you want to learn it or not.

• This tells us: To read the poem even though it's messy and hard to understand and that all you need is your brain.

 How does viewing this text through a child’s perspective change the way we experience it? They have not properly seen the world properly yet and they are still making their opinions and that they haven't seen how the world works and that they shouldn't be exposed to it yet.

How would this text be different if it were told from the perspective of an adult? How would the audience’s experience be different? Anne had a childlike perspective. Adults' perspective would have been more stressed. Seeing from an adult's perspective means we see more awareness, more need for survival.

Why did the filmmaker or author decide to tell this story from a child’s perspective? How are children represented in the text? It was written in a child's perspective to make it more innocent and friendly-like. However, If this was written from an adult's point of view, It would be darker and less friendly.

How are adults represented in the text? It shows how Anne felt and how they reacted. It is important to see things from a different perspective. Adults were represented in the text as selfish, ignorance, hard-headed, and matured.

When she felt lonely, She would always think of being with her friend and riding a bike peacefully. This is to give her a peaceful mind.

If Jojo Rabbit was filmed from the perspective of an adult, it would be darker. This is because adults have to go through more things than kids and have a lot of responsibilities.

Jojo Rabbit Scenes

In this blog, I am gonna be explaining 3 different important scenes in Jojo rabbit.

There was a scene in Jojo rabbit that broke my heart. Jojo was wandering around town and when he came across to the place where people get hanged for trying to help the jews. He found his mum hanged with the other people that tried to make a petition to stop killing the jews. Jojo then ran to his mum crying. He then hugged his mum with pure sadness. The author of this text wanted us to know that family is always important and you have to love them until it is too late to do so. 

The second scene was when Jojo tried to be a nazi. In the whole movie, Jojo wanted to be in the Nazi army and he does get in. He did a lot of things that aren't ordinary for a young kid. He learned about knives, guns, and explosives. The author did this to show us what it was like back then for the people who got drafted for the army Hitler army was still a thing.  

The biggest scene with the most impact was when Jojo found a Jewish girl living in their basement. The Jewish girl has been adopted by Jojo's parents. For the rest of the movie, Jojo has been fighting with this girl and trying to get some information about her. But when Jojo found out about her and her mom helping her, Jojo decided that he was gonna help her escape and get her to freedom. The characters are structured this way to create tension and mystery to the movie. This will then give the viewers curiosity leading them to watch the whole film. 

What does the author of this text want us to know? The author of this film wanted us to know how life was back then especially in the eyes of a german and a jew.

What genre does this text belong to? This movie has a lot of funny scenes and jokes. So I reckon this genre belongs to the Comedy/ War genre.

Why has the author constructed the characters this way? The author of the film did this to create tension and mystery to the movie. Which leads to people wanting to watch the whole film.

What kind of language is used in the text? This text was written in English.

In whose interest is this text? The people that love comedy will be interested in this because the Jojo rabbit has a lot of funny scenes.

What kinds of social realities does the text portray? This text portraits how life was back then when world war existed.

How would the text be different if it were told in another time, place, or culture? If this text was written in a different timeline, there would be more ideas and facts about the war. For example, If this was written in the year 2020, The author would explain more about different guns and things such as gadgets. Which didn't exist until the late 2000's.

How does the text construct a version of reality? This text was written to show life back then when a lot of wars would occur. It shows people dying and people injured as the result of war and land getting blown to pieces by heavy machinery.

Forces

Force - A push or a pull on an object changing its velocity. 

There are different type of forces. A push force which is a person or a thing exerting force on a object changing its location and moving an object. The other force is called friction force. Friction occurs when an object resist the push force by getting dragged on a surface. There is weight force which is an object exerting force in the downwards direction due to its weight. The last force is the support force. When an object is placed on a table, the table is exerting support force and when the table is able to hold the object. It is exerting the same or an even greater equal force on the block that is exerting weight force.

Magnetism

How does magnetism work? Magnetism is a force that can attract or repel objects that have a magnetic material like iron inside of them. Magnets have magnetic fields. In order to magnetize something, You need to put it closer to the magnet because the magnet has a magnetic field that attracts metals such as Iron. Magnets have many use. One of them was found a long time ago. A magnet could be used as a compass to show the direction of north and south.  



North Magnetic pole: The north magnetic pole is the point on the surface of Earth's northern Hemisphere where the planet's magnetic field points vertically downwards.

How is Electricity Made

When it rains, the water droplets can freeze in mid air and rub against each other. This creates electricity and it is usually released by a bolt of lightning. However, Some animals like an electric eel, Produce and store electricity. They use this to hunt prey or as a self defense to a threat. Humans the learned how to harness and store energy. You can harness energy in different ways but there is a way that is very effective. It is called Photo voltaic cells. It converts solar energy to electricity. A solar cell, or photo voltaic cell, is an electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricity by the photo voltaic effect, which is a physical and chemical phenomenon. How do Atoms form Ions

Atoms start out electrically neutral because they have the same number of negatively charged electrons and positively protons. However, An ion is an atom that has gained or lost one or more electrons. Therefore, it has a negative or positive charge.

For example, Sodium. A sodium atom has one electron in the outer shell. A chlorine atom seven electrons in the outer shell. A sodium atom loses an electron to a chlorine atom. The sodium atom becomes a positive sodium ion.

In English, we had a discussion about whether movies are better than books. In my opinion, Movies are better and im gonna be explaining why. 

In my opinion, Movies are better because you get to just sit and watch however, You need to read books manually and it gets really boring after a long time. Movies only consume about 2 hours of your time whereas, it usually takes 20 days to finish a book depending on how fast you read and how much time you read. Movies are better because you also don't need to flip pages or anything whereas to books, You need to manually change pages and manually speak the words in your head. In movies, all you need to do is listen because the characters in that movie usually speak. Whereas as to books, You have to manually read and sound out the words that you are reading in order to catch up or learn about what's happening in the storyline. 

Books also have upper hands from movies. Movies usually take out plots that are really important in the storyline. They leave out big plots and sometimes, they even take out characters that are really important in the book or movie. Taking out plots basically means that they are taking out the important stuff that is needed in the story. Books also give out more details and information than movies. They tend to explain and add more details in the book more than the movie. 

In conclusion, it depends on your personality whether you like movies more than books. If you like reading, Then reading books are probably more interesting and better for you. But if you are a person that desnt like reading and gets bored of it, Then movies are for you because you only need to sit down, watch and listen to the audio. I am a movie person myself because I find reading boring. I find reading boring because you need to manually read it in your head and you also have to manually change the page. Whereas movies, You only need to sit down, watch and listen to what's happening in the story.  Both can be enjoyable and they have upper hands to each other but it depends on what you like and whats more interesting to you.

In English, we have been told to write about whether we think that team sports are better than individual sports. I am a sports player and in my opinion, Team sports are better than individual sports because playing with other people is more fun than playing alone. 

Playing team sports is a good way to have fun and a good way to bond with other people. In team sports, You can show the strategies that you and your teammates have made to beat the other team. Showing strategies is a good way to work with your team and be synchronized with each other while showing your astonishing skills. There is a saying, " Teamwork makes the dream work" and I agree with this because if you play team sports by yourself, you will mostly get thrashed and lose. Going alone in team sports is a bad idea because the point f having teammates are to work with each other while having fun. 

For me, Individual sports are boring because you are all alone. Individual sports such as golf and snooker, are a type of sports where you are alone. In those sports, you are not allowed to talk or scream which makes it boring.  Although, If you are dedicated to sports then it will not be boring for you. I am a team sports player and I find those sports boring because I like talking and shouting while playing.  Individual sports are really serious. Some of them don't talk while playing at all. Boxing is different though because you require to talk every round. Boxing is a different level of seriousness. In boxing timing and reading the body of your opponent is a must. Timing and finding openings are hard because both have been trained by professionals.

Overall, Team sports and individual sports are still playing. It is up to you whether you wanna play with a team or not. I suggest playing with teammates though because it is more fun and more strategic.

Some people say that the south island is better than the north and some say that the north is better than the south. For me, the south island and the north island are the same because of there both Islands that people live in. Although, I think that the south is better because I have lived in the south island for 5 years and I have not been to the North Island. Some people prefer living in different places. I prefer living on the south island because what I see from the news is that The south Island mostly has better weather than the north and for me, I'm a sunny person and I like sunny days and I am a sport person and the south island has a lot of opportunities to play sport and represent your school and maybe even represent canterbury. South Island is also known as having beautiful mountains and sights when you go for a road trip. South Island is where the famous mountains are at such as Mount Cook. 

I can't really say much about the argument because I have not been to the north island yet. I would like to experience the north island because it seems like a good place. The North Island is also a famous tourist spot especially Auckland. Auckland is one of the most famous tourist spots in New Zealand. From what I see on the internet and what I hear from friends, Auckland is a very fun place because there is a lot of places to go to especially central Auckland. Central Auckland is where the fun is at from the people I hear from. Central Auckland is where most of the malls are and It is also where the Sky tower is. 

Overall, the south island and the north island has different features. Both of them are unique in their own ways. The South Island is for adventurers looking to see the famous mountains such as Mount Cook and many more. On the other hand, North Auckland is known for tourists looking to see the malls and the famous sky tower. Both of the islands are good and there is no 'bad Island' because both of the Islands are good and unique and are different from each other.

    

Pummice

What is Pumice? Pumice is a type of rock that forms when lava hits water. There is no time for crystallization and that's why pumice floats on water.

How does it form from volcanoes? The holes are actually gas bubbles that were trapped in the rock during the rapid cooling of a gas-rich frothy magma. The material cools so quickly that atoms in the melt are not able to arrange themselves into a crystalline structure.

What are its properties? Pumice, called pumicite in its powdered or dust form, is a volcanic rock that consists of highly vesicular rough textured volcanic glass, which may or may not contain crystals. It is typically light colored.

How is it like Hockey Pokey? It is like Hockey Pokey because it cools quickly and the bubbles inside the hockey pokey are like the bubbles trapped inside the rock

How did we make it, and get it foamy? We made the Hockey Pokey foamy by adding a teaspoon of baking soda. 

Cooking Souvlaki Wraps

In home economics, we cooked souvlakis. We had a rough start but we started to get used to the pressure of working fast and we had different tasks to do for our selves to make it faster.

The souvlakis turn out great and I really liked it because I put the right amount of salt and pepper on them and it really made it taste great.

Women Should Not be allowed In The Army

In our history, some women who are brave enough would go and join the army to help the medics. Some would join because they neede more people in the medic. Some would join for the money and getting paid and some would join because they got forced too. In our history, Women are known as great medics and they seem to have a lot of knowledge about taking care of wounds

In World War 1 and World War 2, Women would have been forced to join the army because of the lack of the medics they have and they need more to take care of the men that have wounds. After their job is done, some would stay because they liked how they were getting treated and they also like getting paid. Some would leave because they would get too pressured and they think that it was too hard to work in an environment where they would see men everywhere with wounds. Some of them would get disgusted by the blood if they are not used to seeing blood. 

Overall, Women are great medics and even today, As of today, they still use women to help and treat the wounds of soldiers that have been hit. Why women you may ask? They choose women because women have great sensing and they are known for taking good care of you and they are not that reckless as boys. Even in video games, you would see women in the campsite taking care of wounded soldiers. 

Am I for or against in my topic? I am against because women can achieve greater things than men, not by physical but mentally. They have higher skill than us boys when it comes to thinking. Women can also take care of people better than men. They are nicer and their patience is way longer than a man's patience.

Egg Drop Challenge

Our design was a card board box filled with foam, cushioning and bubble wrap. We wrapped the egg around with bubble wrap and this helped with the impact. We also tied Plastic at the back of our box to slow the speed down and create more drag and also make it more air resistance.

Natural Environment

Argument:Bees are the most important creatures on earth.

• Bees help our crops to grow and without bees, Our crops would take a longer time to grow and they will not set properly without the bees help.
• Bees also give us honey that we can use for all sort of things. Bee honey can be used for putting it in drinks, Putting it on your face and you can also use it to put on your food. 
• Bees need pollen to get honey and we can help bees get pollen by planting flowers that have a lot of pollen in them such as a sunflower for example. 
• Bees growing rates are suddenly dropping

• Without pollen Bees won't be able to get honey.
• Bees can sting you and it can hurt very badly 
• Bees can be a problem if you gave a bee hive near your house. This can be a problem because if they feel like their queen is in danger, then they will swarm you and attack you.

Bees are one of the most important creatures on earth without a doubt. Bees help our homemade crops to grow faster and healthier, and without bees, Our crops would take longer to set and it wouldn't set properly without the bees help. Bees also give us honey that we can use for multiple things. We can use a bees honey by putting it in our drinks to make it healthier such as putting honey with tea or putting honey with coffee. We can also use honey by putting it in our food to make our food taste better. We can also use honey by putting it in our faces to keep our faces healthy and slick looking. 

In order for bees to create honey, they first need to find a flower that has pollen in it. Once they found a flower that is rich with pollen, Then they would eat the pollen and they would start to generate honey. Pollen is not the only food they eat. They also eat nectar to help them regenerate honey. Pollen and nectar is a bees favourite food. Without flowers, bees would not be able to generate honey because they can't create honey without pollen or nectars. Bees mostly likes smelly and colourful flowers, In my opinion the type of flowers that bees really like are sunflowers. Sunflowers are rich with pollen and bees are really attracted to them once they smell it. How do I know this? I know this because last year in our garden, my mom planted sunflower seeds and when they got bigger, I noticed that a lot of bees would land at the flower and start getting pollen. 

There is a big problem about bees right now. Scientists have found that bees growing rate is suddenly dropping and they do not know why it is happening and what is the cause of it. scientists are researching for in depth information about why bees rates are dropping.
